Which Christmas markets are open after Christmas?

Sixty-two of the 182 Christmas markets on this site open on at least one day between Sunday 27 and Wednesday 30 December 2026, and 37 of them carry on into January 2027. Prague, Vienna's Schönbrunn, Salzburg, Dresden, Cologne, Berlin and Budapest give you the most to do that week, and Colmar keeps all six markets going until 29 December. Further afield, London, Edinburgh, Riga, Tallinn and the South Tyrol towns trade right through the week. We ran every market file through the date engine behind our 27 to 30 December page and checked each organizer's notes on post-Christmas hours. The table runs in order of each market's last day. A date marked confirmed comes from the organizer's own page. Announced means a tourism board published it, and projected means nobody has yet, so the date comes from past seasons.

Which markets open on Boxing Day?

Sixty-one markets on this site open on Saturday 26 December 2026, and it's the last day for Vienna's four central markets. The Vienna Christmas Market at Rathausplatz closes its season with a full day from 10:00 to 22:00, and the Stephansplatz Christmas Market runs 11:00 to 19:00. Maria-Theresien-Platz and Schwarzenbergplatz shut at 16:00 that afternoon. After the 26th, Schönbrunn carries Vienna alone until 6 January.

The 26th also brings back markets that took Christmas Day off. Heinzels Wintermarchen (Cologne Old Town) reopens on the Heumarkt after closing on the 24th and 25th. Düsseldorf's markets open from 14:00 to 21:00. Edinburgh's market and the South Tyrol markets reopen too, and Wrocław's opens at 13:00. Magisch Maastricht Vrijthof has the latest night, trading from 11:00 to 01:00 on Tweede Kerstdag, and its craft stalls close at 22:00 every day. Our Boxing Day page has the full list.

Which cities still have a proper market between Christmas and New Year?

Prague is the easy answer. The Prague Old Town Square Christmas Market and the Prague Wenceslas Square Christmas Market keep their 10:00 to 22:00 hours right through to 6 January 2027. Old Town Square suits anyone who wants the Týn Church towers behind the tree and the stage show every afternoon. It's also the busiest and dearest square in the city, and it packs out from the 16:00 show onward, so browse on a weekday morning.

Salzburg gets calmer after Christmas. Go to the Salzburg Christkindlmarkt on the Domplatz between 27 and 30 December if you want the stalls with the pressure gone. The market returns to its normal weekly hours on those days, from 10:00 to 20:30 on weekdays. It closes for the season on New Year's Day.

The Striezelmarkt ends on Christmas Eve, and Dresden has three other markets back by the 27th. The Augustusmarkt, Dresden on the Hauptstraße suits anyone after international Christmas food on the Neustadt side of the Elbe. The Medieval Christmas Market in the Stallhof, Dresden switches to its Rauhnächte programme. The Rauhnächte are the twelve nights after Christmas, and fortune tellers and card readers join the stalls for them. The organizer publishes an adult entry price of 5 euros for the Stallhof from 27 to 30 December 2026. Advent on the Neumarkt reopens on the 27th too, and its 2026 hours aren't out yet.

Cologne keeps two markets. Families should head for Heinzels Wintermarchen (Cologne Old Town), where the ice rink on the Heumarkt runs to 10 January 2027. The Cologne Harbour Christmas Market by the Chocolate Museum stays to 3 January. The cathedral market and the Markt der Engel close on the 23rd.

Berlin keeps three markets going that week, and Budapest has Advent Bazilika and Vörösmarty Square until New Year. Brussels Winter Wonders and the Bruges Christmas Market both run to 3 January, so Belgium works for a trip between Christmas and New Year.

Which markets beyond Germany and Austria keep going after Christmas?

South Tyrol is the strongest region for that week. The Bolzano Christmas Market on Waltherplatz has run since 1991 and is the oldest Christmas market in Italy. Its 112 stalls open 10:00 to 19:00 every day to Epiphany, and it suits anyone who wants an Alpine market after Christmas. The trade-off is a crowd of about a million visitors a season. The Merano Christmas Market on the riverside Kurpromenade works for couples and families, and there's an ice rink across the river. Brixen and Trento also run to 6 January.

Britain has two big ones. The Christmas fair in Hyde Park mixes market stalls with an ice rink and fairground rides until 3 January 2027, and you need a timed ticket to get in. Edinburgh's Christmas Market in East Princes Street Gardens runs 10:00 to 22:00 through the week, and its narrow garden paths crowd at peak times.

Further east, the Wroclaw Christmas Market runs to 7 January 2027 and counted more than a million visits in 2025, so expect company. The Krakow Christmas Market on the Main Square runs into January too. Prices are its weak point, since a small mulled wine cost 35 PLN there in 2025. Advent Zagreb spreads across the Upper and Lower Towns until 7 January, and the Tallinn Christmas Market keeps 10:00 to 20:00 every day to Epiphany.

What changes at the markets after Christmas?

Hours get shorter, and some markets keep only their food stands. The Koblenz Christmas Market has had food and drink stands only since 23 December. On Vörösmarty Square in Budapest the craft stalls and the children's train finish on 28 December, and from the 29th the square sells food and drink only. The Schonbrunn Palace Christmas Market closes at 19:00 from 25 December, two hours earlier than in Advent. The Innsbruck Hungerburg Christmas Market at the top of the funicular closes at 18:00 from the same day.

A few organizers lean into the gap between the holidays. The Stallhof's Rauhnächte are the clearest example, and Tivoli in Copenhagen keeps its rides and its ice rink going to 3 January.

Is anything open in Alsace after Christmas?

Yes, and you'll want Colmar or the villages around it. Strasbourg's seven markets are projected to close on 24 December 2026. The city confirmed the 27 November opening and hasn't printed the last day yet. Colmar's six markets run to 29 December (confirmed), and the Colmar Gourmet Christmas Market stays to 3 January 2027. Colmar is quieter from Monday to Thursday, and 28 and 29 December fall on a Monday and a Tuesday. The tourism office publishes a day-by-day crowd forecast on noel-colmar.com.

The villages give you a quieter day out. The Eguisheim Christmas Market closes from 24 to 26 December and reopens from 27 to 30 December. The Turckheim Elves' Christmas Market also runs to the 30th. The tourism office's Christmas page gives the Obernai Christmas Market to 31 December, and its home page card says the 30th, so check before you go on the last day.

Which markets close on 27 December?

Sunday 27 December 2026 is the last day for eight markets. They are Christmas Village Amsterdam, the Christmas Market at Charlottenburg Palace in Berlin, the Bern Star Market, Kitzbuhel Advent, Magisch Maastricht Vrijthof, the Mulhouse and Selestat markets in Alsace and Potsdamer Weihnachtszauber. Amsterdam closes at 18:00 that day, and Maastricht stays open until midnight.

How firm are these dates and hours?

Most rows rest on the organizer's own 2026 page. Potsdam's hours and the Nuremberg Kinderweihnacht's are from 2025, because neither has posted 2026 hours yet. Rows marked announced take their dates from a tourism board or a host page, such as visitBerlin for the Gendarmenmarkt and Visit Bruges for Bruges. The Budapest market at Városháza Park has nothing published for 2026, so its run to 9 January is our projection from 2025, its first season. Ljubljana's and Vilnius's end dates are projected as well. Kraków's organizer Artim lists the market to 6 January, and its call for traders gives 3 or 6 January, so the last day there could still change.
