Magisch Maastricht Vrijthof is Maastricht's main Christmas market and winter fair, and it suits families and groups who want skating, a Ferris wheel and late drinks in one square, though the craft stalls close at 22:00 and Friday to Sunday get crowded. It runs from 27 November to 27 December 2026 on the Vrijthof, with free entry and food and drink paid by a top-up card.

Access and crowds
- Toilets
- An accessible toilet stands by the Hoofdwacht, to the left of the Ferris wheel. Baby changing is in the toilets of the Grand Café.
- Getting around
- The organizer says it works to make the bars and activities wheelchair accessible, while some rides are not suitable. Bags are searched at the entrance and the checks can slow you down at busy times.
- Busiest
- Friday to Sunday, by the organizer's own count.
- Quieter
- Weekday mornings from the 10:00 opening; Visit Maastricht has a whole piece on visiting the Vrijthof in the morning.
The Vrijthof is Maastricht's big square, and in December the Basilica of Saint Servatius and the red tower of Sint-Janskerk stand over the whole thing. The square fills with a covered ice rink, two curling lanes, a children's carousel, a small funfair and a 45-metre Ferris wheel with glass gondolas. The chalets sell crafts and decorations until 22:00, while the food carries on later. Expect oliebollen and waffles at the chalets, or sit down in the Austrian Almhütte, which has live music most days.
Everything on the square is paid with the Magische Cashcard. It costs €1, each credit is worth €3.50 in 2026, and you can top it up at a booth or on your phone. Leftover credits can be refunded until 7 January 2027, minus one credit for the paperwork. Hang on to a card from 2025, because it still works.
Worth knowing
- Load the Magische Cashcard on your phone before you arrive and skip the booth queue.
- Go in the morning if you want the Ferris wheel without a wait; the organizer names Friday to Sunday as the busiest days.
- Dogs on a lead are allowed on the square, though the organizer warns the weekend noise can be a lot for them.
