Advent Zagreb suits families and friends who want a different corner of the city each evening, with stalls, concerts and lights from 28 November 2026 to 7 January 2027. It runs as a citywide programme, so expect to walk between sites spread over the Upper and Lower Towns.
The Zagreb Tourist Board runs Advent as a citywide programme, and the stalls spread from the Upper Town to Zrinjevac Park, European Square and King Tomislav Square. Ban Jelačić Square sits in the middle of that walk. Under the Upper Town the Grič Tunnel gets its own Advent space, which makes a dry stop on a wet night.
The Tourist Board's own food picks start with sarma (cabbage leaves rolled round minced meat) and turkey roasted the Zagreb way with mlinci flatbread. For the sweet side, look for makovnjača (poppy-seed roll) and vanilla crescent biscuits. Paprenjaci (peppery honey biscuits) travel well, and August Šenoa wrote them into his novel Zlatarevo zlato.
European Best Destinations says Advent Zagreb was voted Europe's best Christmas market three years in a row, and the Tourist Board shows the awards for 2016, 2017 and 2018 on its Advent site.

- The ice rink stands on King Tomislav Square in front of the main railway station, handy on the way into or out of town.
