Which Christmas markets stay open until New Year and Epiphany?

Thirty-seven of the 182 Christmas markets on this site run into January 2027, and 15 with confirmed dates are still open on Epiphany, Wednesday 6 January 2027. Prague's two big squares, Vienna's Schönbrunn and the South Tyrol towns are among them. Wrocław and Zagreb carry on to the 7th, and Cologne's Heinzels Wintermarchen runs to 10 January. We ran every market file through the date engine behind our New Year's Eve, New Year's Day and Epiphany pages and checked each organizer's notes on holiday hours. A date marked confirmed comes from the organizer's own page. Announced means a tourism board published it, and projected means nobody has yet, so the date comes from past seasons.

Where can you see in the New Year at a Christmas market?

Budapest stays up latest. Advent Bazilika in front of St Stephen's Basilica and the Vorosmarty Square Christmas Market both open from 11:00 on 31 December 2026 until 03:00 on 1 January 2027, and both organizers confirm it. Advent Bazilika suits anyone who wants the light show on the church front every half hour from 17:30, and seating there is scarcer than on Vörösmarty tér. Vörösmarty Square sells food and drink only by then, because its craft stalls finished on 28 December.

Salzburg throws a party in the old town. The Salzburg Christkindlmarkt keeps its craft stalls open until at least 18:00 on New Year's Eve, and selected food and drink stands carry on until 01:00 for the celebration on the Kapitelplatz. Christmas in Tivoli stays open until midnight and ends the year with fireworks, and the entry ticket (from 180 DKK for ages eight and up in 2026) still applies. In Berlin, WeihnachtsZauber Gendarmenmarkt closes its season with a DJ and fireworks and runs to midnight, according to visitBerlin.

The Riga Christmas Market stays open until 02:00 on 1 January. The food and drink huts at the Wroclaw Christmas Market keep going to 02:00 as well, and its craft huts close at 17:00. In Brixen the food stalls reopen from 21:00 to 02:00 after the craft stalls shut at 16:00. Tallinn plans a celebration on Town Hall Square and hasn't published its hours yet.

Dresden has two late markets that night. The Augustusmarkt, Dresden stays open until 02:00, according to Dresden's tourism pages, and Advent on the Neumarkt, Dresden runs from 13:00 to 00:30. The Stallhof market closes for 31 December and 1 January.

Plenty of others close early on the 31st. Brussels Winter Wonders shuts at 18:00 and holds no Grand-Place show that evening, and the Colmar gourmet market and its Ferris wheel close at 17:00. Edinburgh's market closes at 17:00 for Hogmanay, and Merano's craft stalls stop at 15:30. Koblenz keeps its food and drink stands going until 16:00. Berlin's Rotes Rathaus market closes for the day.

Which markets open on New Year's Day?

All 37 of the markets that run into January have 1 January 2027 inside their run, and several of them still close for the day. The Augustusmarkt and Advent on the Neumarkt in Dresden, the Stallhof market and the Koblenz Christmas Market all shut on New Year's Day and reopen on 2 January. The Wroclaw Christmas Market closes for the day as well. Bruges opens with fewer stalls and shorter hours, Visit Bruges says, without giving the times.

The safest bets publish hours that cover the day. Heinzels Wintermarchen (Cologne Old Town) opens from 11:00 to 21:00, Christmas in Tivoli from 11:00 to 23:00 and the Schonbrunn Palace Christmas Market from 10:00 to 19:00. Innsbruck's Hungerburg market opens with public holiday hours from 12:00 to 18:00, and Maria-Theresien-Strasse keeps its usual 11:00 to 21:00. The Christmas fair in Hyde Park opens 11:00 to 22:00, and Merano's craft stalls run on holiday hours from 10:00 to 20:00. It's also the final day for the Salzburg Christkindlmarkt, which closes at 18:00, and for Advent Bazilika, where the organizer closed the 2025 season with a lentil day (Lencsenap) on 1 January.

Which markets are still open on the first weekend of January?

Saturday 2 and Sunday 3 January 2027 make a good last weekend, and 3 January is the final day for 17 markets. Brussels Winter Wonders closes at 18:00 that Sunday, and the Bruges Christmas Market runs to the same day. The Ghent Winter Festival is running into January for the first time, because the City of Ghent extended it to the last Sunday of the Christmas holidays. In Berlin, the Berliner Weihnachtszeit at the Rotes Rathaus closes at 20:00 on the 3rd.

Dresden's Augustusmarkt and Advent on the Neumarkt both reopen for 2 and 3 January. The Cesky Krumlov Christmas Market runs until the 3rd as well and suits a couple who want a small square under a castle. The trade-off is size, since one square holds every stall. The Mosel Wine Christmas Market (Traben-Trarbach) puts its stalls in old wine cellars and opens on weekends only, and Saturday 2 January is its last day.

Which Christmas markets stay open until Epiphany?

Fifteen markets with confirmed dates open on Wednesday 6 January 2027. These eight are the ones in Prague, Vienna, Germany and Innsbruck, and each suits a different trip.

• Prague Old Town Square Christmas Market suits anyone who wants the postcard version of a Czech Christmas, with the Týn Church towers behind the tree. It's the busiest and dearest square in Prague, so go on a weekday morning after the 10:00 opening.
• Prague Wenceslas Square Christmas Market keeps the same dates and hours as Old Town Square and gives you more room to move. It sits on a long shopping boulevard, so you trade the Gothic backdrop for space.
• Schonbrunn Palace Christmas Market has the longest season of Vienna's big markets and works for families, with skates for hire and an ice rink in the palace courtyard. The palace is out in Hietzing, about 600 metres on foot from the nearest U4 stations, so plan it as its own outing. Stalls close at 19:00 from 25 December.
• Baden-Baden Christkindelsmarkt suits travellers who want an elegant market in the Kurgarten in front of the Kurhaus. The station is a bus ride from the centre. On 6 January 2026 it closed at 18:00, and the 2027 hours are still to be set.
• Innsbruck Maria-Theresien-Strasse Christmas Market lines the main shopping street with 30 stalls and opens 11:00 to 21:00 through Epiphany. The market by the Golden Roof has more old-town charm and closes on 23 December.
• Innsbruck Hungerburg Christmas Market sits at the top of the Hungerburgbahn funicular and gives you the view over Innsbruck's lights. It has 10 stalls and closes at 18:00 after Christmas, so ride up in the afternoon.
• Medieval Christmas Market in the Stallhof, Dresden runs its Rauhnächte programme from 2 to 6 January, closing at 20:00 and at 18:00 on the 6th. It suits anyone who wants torchlight and live music inside the palace walls, and adults pay 5 euros at weekends (published for 2026).
• Heinzels Wintermarchen (Cologne Old Town) outlasts all of them and stays on the Heumarkt until 10 January 2027. Families come for the ice rink, and the curling lanes book out early, so reserve one before you travel.

Epiphany is a public holiday in Austria, and the Hungerburg market opens with holiday hours from 12:00 to 18:00 on its last day.

The rest of the confirmed list sits further south and east. The Bolzano Christmas Market has run since 1991 and is the oldest in Italy. Its 112 stalls open 10:00 to 19:00 on the 6th. The trade-off is a crowd of about a million visitors a season. Merano and Brixen close at 18:00 that day, and Trento's market does too. The Tallinn Christmas Market keeps 10:00 to 20:00 to the end and suits families who want everything on one square. The Wroclaw Christmas Market and Advent Zagreb both run a day past Epiphany, to 7 January. Kraków's market is announced to 6 January, and the organizer's call for traders gives 3 or 6 January, so check the last day before you plan around it.

Do any markets run past Epiphany?

Four do on our files, and one of them is a projection. Heinzels Wintermarchen (Cologne Old Town) has a confirmed run to Sunday 10 January 2027. The Wroclaw Christmas Market and Advent Zagreb both have confirmed runs to Thursday 7 January 2027, and Zagreb hasn't published its 2026 hours yet. In 2025, its first season, the Budapest Christmas Market at Varoshaza Park ran until Saturday 10 January 2026. Nothing for 2026 is out yet, so we project 9 January 2027 and you should treat that date as unconfirmed until the city publishes. Bern's city listings also show a New Year's market on the Waisenhausplatz from 4 to 9 January 2027. That's a separate market from the Bern Christmas Market on Waisenhausplatz, which ends on Christmas Eve.

How firm are these dates and hours?

Every last day in the table comes from the organizer except the rows marked announced or projected. The holiday hours are less settled. Prague's organizer Taiko publishes 10:00 to 22:00 daily for 2026 and no holiday hours yet; in 2025 both squares ran 10:00 to 15:00 on New Year's Eve and 12:00 to 22:00 on New Year's Day. Baden-Baden's organizer lists its special-day hours as to be confirmed, so we show the last season's. The Cologne harbour market's host lists no hours for New Year's Eve.
