Prague Old Town Square Christmas Market

The vánoční trhy (Christmas markets) on Staroměstské náměstí fill the square between the Old Town Hall and the Church of Our Lady before Týn. Taiko also runs the Wenceslas Square market, and here it lays out the stalls around a tall spruce. In 2025 that tree was a 26-metre spruce from the Ústí nad Labem region, and it lit up each evening from 16:30. The crafts lean Czech: blown-glass and straw ornaments, wooden and ceramic nativity figures, lace, bells and cookie cutters.

Food runs the other way from the crafts and leans hard on the grill. A cup of svařák (Czech mulled wine) cost 100 CZK here in December 2025 by Taiko's own figure, and a klobása sausage ran to 160 CZK. You will smell trdelník long before you see it. Local writers point out that the sugar-rolled spit cake has no deep Czech or Christmas roots, so treat it as a street snack and look to the ornament stalls for the local craft.

The stage programme runs daily from 16:00 to 19:00, and children's workshops fill weekend mornings from 11:00 to 15:00. Come before 16:00 on a weekday if you want to see the stalls. Once the tree lights up the square packs tight around the stage and the astronomical clock.
