The Innsbruck Hungerburg Christmas Market is a 10-stall market above the city at the top of the Hungerburgbahn funicular, best for a view of Innsbruck's lights, though it is small and closes by 19:00. In 2026 it runs from 20 November 2026 to 6 January 2027, open weekdays 13:00–19:00 and weekends 12:00–19:00 with shorter hours after Christmas, and the organizer has confirmed the dates.

Access and crowds
- Getting around
- The organizer publishes no access details for the square. The Hungerburgbahn funicular climbs from the city centre with a stop at the Alpenzoo, and the organizer says the market is a few steps from the top station.
- Busiest
- Weekend afternoons and the evening of 6 December, when St Nicholas and the Krampus figures come up the hill.
- Quieter
- Weekday afternoons soon after the 13:00 opening.
Ride up for the view and stay for one drink. The Hungerburgbahn leaves from the edge of the Old Town and reaches Hungerburg in eight minutes, according to the organizer, through stations that Zaha Hadid designed. At the top, ten stalls ring Hermann-Buhl-Platz and the city lights spread out below.
Go just before dusk so you see the valley in daylight and then watch it light up. The market shuts at 19:00 before Christmas and at 18:00 afterwards, so plan it for the afternoon.
On 6 December at 17:00 St Nicholas arrives with a Krampus run. The Krampus figures in fur and masks are there to frighten, and runners can come close to the crowd, so keep small children back from the route and leave if they get upset. Stand well away from the path if you would rather not be touched.
Worth knowing
- Check the Hungerburgbahn timetable before you go up, especially for the last run down after the market closes.
- Combine the market with the Alpenzoo stop on the funicular for a family afternoon.
