Christmas in Tivoli runs from 13 November 2026 to 3 January 2027 in the Tivoli Gardens beside Copenhagen Central Station, and it suits families and first-timers who want the rides and the stalls behind one gate. The catch is the ticket, because entry starts at 180 DKK for anyone aged eight and up in 2026 and the rides need a pass on top. Tivoli is closed on Christmas Eve.

Access and crowds
- Getting around
- Tivoli's Lucia procession page marks a limited area with wheelchair access along the route. We found no general access statement for the Christmas season.
Tivoli was a summer garden until 1994, when it opened for Christmas for the first time, and it has used the whole park for the season since 1997. So you get a full amusement park dressed for December with the stalls threaded between the rides. Tivoli says every ride stays open through the Christmas season, and small children get two Christmas rides of their own called the Elf Train and the Forest Carousel. Santa keeps a house in the garden where children can tell him what they're hoping for.
Saturday afternoons from 21 November to 19 December belong to Tivoli-Garden. Tivoli founded its guard in 1844, and today the band has 90 members aged 9 to 16 who march out from the Tivoli castle at 13:30 in red jackets and bearskin hats and play Danish and English marches with Christmas tunes on the way round. On 25 and 26 December Tivoli fires a short Christmas fireworks show at 20:45. In 2025 a Lucia procession of about 100 singers from several choirs walked through the garden at 17:30 on 13 December, and Tivoli hadn't posted the 2026 programme when we checked on 10 October.
Tivoli opened an entrance facing the main station in 1912, the year after Copenhagen Central Station moved to its present site, so the garden has always been the easy one to reach off a train. It also stays open later than the square markets in the centre. Gates close at 22:00 from Sunday to Thursday and at 23:00 on Friday and Saturday, and on New Year's Eve the garden runs until midnight.
Worth knowing
- Tivoli is closed on 24 December 2026 and reopens on Christmas Day from 11:00 to 23:00.
- Children under three get in free. Tivoli's shop lists entry for children aged three to seven from 90 DKK in 2026.
- Entry and the ride pass are separate tickets. If your group plans to ride a lot, the combined entrance and ride pass starts at 469 DKK.
- Visit Copenhagen says skating on the rink in front of the Nimb hotel is free once you've paid to get in, and you can bring your own skates or hire a pair there.
- A Tivoli Pass starts at 449 DKK a year and covers entry in every season, which Tivoli says pays for itself by the third visit.
