Vorosmarty Square Christmas Market

The market fills the square around the Vörösmarty monument at the north end of Váci utca, and since 2023 the statue has stood inside a clear plastic snow globe while the huts are up. Craft stalls sell leather, ceramics, jewellery, gingerbread and glass ornaments, and the organizer has given space to members of the Hungarian Crafts Association in past seasons. A small train loops the square for free and takes children past the Lion Fountain. The craft stalls and the train finish on 28 December 2026, when the square starts turning into a New Year's Eve party that runs until 03:00 on 1 January.

Food is the main event for most people here. Every big kitchen keeps one dish at a fixed low price, which was 1,600 HUF in 2025 and on this square meant lecsó (a pepper and tomato stew) with sausage and bread. Plain forralt bor, the Hungarian mulled wine, cost 1,500 HUF at the hot-drink points of both central markets in 2025. Stallholders will steer you toward flavoured cups with a shot in them, and Economx paid 1,900 HUF for one of those. In 2025 the two central markets also ran theme weekends, starting with goose dishes and moving on to pork knuckle the week after.
