Turckheim's Elves' Christmas Market suits families and anyone staying in Colmar who wants a small market of about 20 makers on a walled-town square. The market fills Place de l'Hôtel de Ville with crooked, oddly shaped little houses that are meant to look as if elves built them. About 20 craftspeople sell from them, and some show their old-fashioned skills while you watch. Children can walk the Sentier des Chèvres to meet the animals of the Ferme de la Bassette.
Stay on into the evening. Turckheim keeps a night watchman who sets off from the Corps de Garde at 21:00 with his lantern, his halberd and his horn, and he sings his calls in Alsatian. The round is free and runs every night in Advent except 24 and 25 December.
