Prague suits a long weekend or the start of a rail trip, with four central markets and two of them open until 6 January. The trade-off is crowds and Old Town prices, which run well above the neighbourhood squares.

Who should base here
Prague has a market open somewhere in the centre from 20 November to 6 January. Náměstí Míru opens the season on 20 November, Republic Square follows on 25 November, and the two Taiko markets on Old Town Square and Wenceslas Square run from 28 November 2026 to 6 January 2027. That gives you markets before Advent starts and markets after New Year from the same base. Concerts at St Nicholas on Malá Strana and services at St Vitus fill the evenings once the stalls start to thin.

Base yourself in Staré Město or Nové Město if markets are the point of the trip, because Old Town Square, Wenceslas Square and Republic Square sit within a short walk of each other. Vinohrady works well if you want quieter streets, since metro line A drops you at the Náměstí Míru market and carries on to Můstek in the centre. Keep Christmas Eve light: the Taiko markets cut their hours on 24 December in 2025, and the two neighbourhood markets end that day.
