- The Große Bergparade on Advent 4 brings more than 1,000 people in miners' costume into town.
The town builds its Christmas huts in the timber style of the Erzgebirge and sets them on the Markt in front of the Rathaus. Erzgebirge woodcraft and decorations share the square with the food and Glühwein huts. The market's own menu lists the specialities each cook serves, and every year the cooks choose one old-style local dish to make in their own way.
Families are well looked after here. The market's elves run a children's cinema and craft sessions, and the market post office wraps presents in the market's own paper when you buy Erzgebirge folk art from the huts that take part. Children can fill in a wish list there, and the elves promise an answer from Santa.
The Große Bergparade on the fourth Sunday of Advent is the town's big day. Over 1,000 people in miners' dress from across Saxony and other German mining regions march at 13:30, and the bands gather in front of the St. Annenkirche for a closing concert. The miners' nativity in the Bergkirche St. Marien ties the same mining story to the Christmas one.
