The market takes its look from the city's coat of arms, so about 20 illuminated lilies stand among the more than 100 stalls and four lit gateways mark the entrances. More lilies line the pedestrian zone and 51 run down Wilhelmstraße. A city nativity stands in front of the tree, and a traditional children's carousel turns on the square.
Children get their own market on the Luisenplatz, the Kindersternschnuppenmarkt, with a small train, a carousel, crafts and storytelling, and it stays open until 30 December. On the Mauritiusplatz the Hessische WinterStubb serves Hessian dishes next to a Ferris wheel that lifts you 45 metres over the lit city centre. Walk up to the Kurhaus foyer to see a Christmas tree built from more than 2,000 red poinsettias.
