Monschau sits deep in the valley of the Rur, close to the Belgian border, with slate-hung and half-timbered houses stacked along the river. About 35 stalls spread through the old town, and more traders set up in the Markthalle, by the Rur bridge and in the Haus am Turm. On the second and third weekends a craft market fills the Aukloster cloister.
On every market day the organizer runs shuttle buses from park-and-ride sites at Imgenbroich, Höfen and the Haag school centre. Go on a Friday if you can, when the lanes are calmer.
