Access and crowds
- Getting around
- The organizer publishes no access details. The market sits on the Oberer Stadtplatz in the old town; the nearest bus stops are Kurhaus, Stadtgraben and Unterer Stadtplatz, and the Altstadtgarage and the Parkgarage Untere Stadt are the closest car parks.
- Busiest
- Saturdays from the 11:00 opening, and 6 December when St Nicholas comes.
- Quieter
- Weekday afternoons from 15:00, before the 18:00 music.
The market sits on the Oberer Stadtplatz by the town hall and spills onto the Marktanger behind it. Several makers share each hut and take turns through the season, so the pottery you saw on Tuesday may have given way to glass by Friday.
The town lights its lanes with stars and Christmas symbols, and the facades around the square carry a projected Advent calendar that gains a coloured number every day. At 18:00 a choir or a brass group from Hall or nearby takes the stage, which is the moment to have a mug of punch in hand.
Food leans Tyrolean and hearty. In 2025 the stalls sold Kiachl, the fried dough rounds of the region, alongside Baumkuchen, sausages and South Tyrolean speck from a stand by the curling lane. The 2026 stall list comes out in the organizer's Hall im Advent magazine in mid-November.
For children there is skating by the town hall, a campfire run by the scouts, fairy-tale tellers and a petting zoo of dwarf goats. On 6 December St Nicholas walks through the old town with shepherds and angels, and after his traditional address he sings with the children.
Worth knowing
- Come by train to Hall in Tirol station or by one of the frequent buses from Innsbruck; the organizer recommends public transport over driving.
- Book the curling lane ahead through the organizer's reservation calendar; it costs €15 per half hour plus a €50 deposit on the stones, payable in advance.
