Freiburg Christmas Market

FWTM sets the Freiburg Christmas Market across the old town, with the Rathausplatz at its heart and more stalls on the Kartoffelmarkt, Unterlindenplatz, Franziskanerstraße, Turmstraße, Predigertor and Rotteckring. The 2026 site counts nine locations in all; the 2025 press release counted eight. The Colombipark joined in 2021 and glows after dark. FWTM counts more than 140 stalls for 2026, and on the four Advent Sundays extra stands go up on Kaiser-Joseph-Straße to link the squares.

Order a Lange Rote with mustard, then find a Glühwein stand, since each one works to its own recipe. Families can book the Kinderbackstube on the Kartoffelmarkt, where children bake cookies for €4 a head. At 17:30 each day from 1 December the church of St. Martin on the Rathausplatz holds a short Advent meditation called Lichtworte, which the market lists as a quiet break from the stalls.

In 2025 FWTM added mobile vehicle barriers at the entrances, and a weapons and knife ban applied across the market. Delivery traffic could enter until 10:30 that year, and the barriers were raised from 11:00.
