Advent in Óbuda fills Fő tér, the old main square of Óbuda in north Budapest, with a district-run Christmas market, a free ice rink and free weekend concerts, and it suits families and anyone who wants a neighbourhood market away from the tourist centre. It opens in late afternoon on weekdays, and the 2026 dates are still projected.

We Love Budapest likens the market on Óbuda's main square to the small towns of old, and the district hall stands right on the square. The district council runs the market and puts the ice rink in the middle of it. In 2025 skating was free from 08:00, skate hire cost 2,000 HUF, and a penguin skating aid for small children cost the same for 30 minutes.
Most of the programme happens at weekends. In 2025 Hungarian pop and world-music acts played the main stage on Saturdays and Sundays at 11:00, 16:00 and 18:20 from 28 November to 21 December, and a fire-juggling show ran on Sunday evenings. Santa sat in a gingerbread house on the square until 6 December, and children's craft sessions took it over until 21 December. Drinks come in reusable cups that you can hand back or take home.
Worth knowing
- On weekdays the stalls open at 14:00, so come after lunch; on weekends they open at 10:00.
- The free ice rink opens from 08:00, long before the stalls, and in 2025 it stayed open until 15 January.
- The organizer provides a separate accessible toilet for wheelchair users on the market site.
- Dogs are welcome under the market's house rules, and the market bans fur products.
