Augsburg's market spreads across the Rathausplatz in front of the town hall. It opens on the evening of Monday 23 November 2026 and closes at 14:00 on Christmas Eve. On Fridays and Saturdays the stalls stay open to 21:30.
The reason to come is the Engelesspiel. At 18:00 on Advent Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, 23 angels played by young Augsburg women appear in the town hall's windows and on its balcony, and on 23 December they come down to the portal. A former tourism director, Fritz Kleiber, devised it in 1977 after a Hans Holbein painting.
