For two months each winter the Wilhelma in Bad Cannstatt turns into a light trail after dark. The loop runs about two kilometres past glowing animal sculptures, light art and laser effects in the stand of giant sequoias, and the organizer reckons on two hours with stops. The route is redesigned for the 2026 season.
Take the Stadtbahn U13, U14 or U16 to the Wilhelma stop, because parking near the gardens is limited and all of it costs money. Tickets carry a half-hour entry window and the cheapest ones are sold online only. It goes ahead in any weather, and rain is no reason for a refund.
Worth knowing
- Buy online for a weekday slot; box-office prices are the highest.
- Dress for a two-hour walk outdoors in the cold.
- It is closed on 24 and 31 December, so plan those evenings elsewhere.
