Wicklein Lebkuchnerei, Nuremberg
Wicklein Lebküchnerei49°27′ N 11°05′ E
The Lebküchnerei suits a visitor who wants Lebkuchen warm from the oven and a café seat facing the Frauenkirche on the Hauptmarkt. The café and the baking workshops stop for the Christkindlesmarkt, so in Advent you come here to buy.
Wicklein opened the Lebküchnerei at Hauptmarkt 7 in 2017. It faces the Frauenkirche across the square, and Wicklein calls it the largest Lebkuchen shop in the world. Lebkuchen are baked fresh each day in the bakehouse at the back. From January to October the café serves coffee and hot drinks, and at noon the clock figures of the Männleinlaufen parade on the church front right outside.
The baking workshop runs Monday to Thursday from 16:30 to 18:00 and costs €29.90 a person. You shape, bake and decorate your own Nuremberg Lebkuchen and carry them home. Groups need 6 to 15 people and book by request. The Christkindlesmarkt brings such crowds that Wicklein stops the workshops from November.
Worth knowing
- Book the baking workshop for October or earlier, because none run from November.
- Be on the Hauptmarkt at 12:00 to see the Männleinlaufen from the shop door.
