Tübingen suits food lovers and weekenders who can time their trip, because its chocolate festival and its Christmas market each last only days. The trade-off is that the steep old town fills fast on those dates.

Who should base here
Tübingen is worth a night when your dates hit one of its two December events: chocolART from 1 to 6 December 2026, or the three-day Christmas market on 11 to 13 December. Outside those dates it makes an easy day trip from Stuttgart.
The old town climbs from the Neckar up through the Holzmarkt below the Stiftskirche to the Marktplatz and its painted Rathaus. chocolART brings about 90 chocolate makers here in the first week of Advent, and the Christmas market takes over more than a dozen lanes and squares on the third Advent weekend.
Worth knowing
- Book a room early if you want to sleep in town during chocolART or the Christmas market weekend.
