Hall made its money from salt; the town is named in a deed of 1232 as a saltworks, and in 1477 the Tyrolean mint moved here from Merano. In Advent the medieval centre around the Oberer Stadtplatz fills with huts, and the town lights its lanes with stars and Christmas symbols.
The market changes almost daily because many huts rotate between makers, so a second visit turns up different crafts. The organizer's free magazine Hall im Advent lands in mid-November with the stall list and the full programme.
Worth knowing
- Saturday gives the longest market day, 11:00–20:00, with the food stands open to 21:00.
