Hotel Elch
49°27′ N 11°04′ EHotel
Hotel Elch suits couples who want to sleep in a half-timbered house first recorded as an inn in 1342, up in the castle quarter above the Hauptmarkt. The site says nothing about a lift, and the hotel warns that nothing in the old building runs quite straight, so ask before you book with heavy bags.
Highlights
- The house was first recorded as an inn in 1342
- One room has a Nuremberg oriel window over the street
- Dogs and bikes are welcome
Elch sits on Irrerstraße in the Burgviertel, the quarter under the Kaiserburg, and the Horka family runs it in the fourth generation. Some beams in the house are over 700 years old. Rooms come in History, Boutique and Living categories, and one Boutique room keeps a Chörlein, the small Nuremberg oriel window that juts out over the street. Breakfast is a buffet.
From the door you walk downhill past St Sebald to the Hauptmarkt, and the Albrecht Dürer House stands just up the slope. The hotel takes dogs and bikes. When it's full, it sends guests to its partner Hotel Hauser on Unschlittplatz.
Worth knowing
- Ask for the History rooms if you want the exposed old beams.
