Frankfurt Cathedral
Kaiserdom St. Bartholomäus50°07′ N 8°41′ E
Frankfurt Cathedral is the Gothic church at the east end of the Christmas market where German kings were elected from 1356 and emperors crowned from 1562, and it suits anyone who wants a quiet half hour off the Römerberg. It is a working parish church, so sightseeing gives way to worship during services.

Frankfurt's Kaiserdom has never been a bishop's seat. It served as the collegiate church of St Bartholomew, whose skull relic arrived after 1200, and under the floor lies a Merovingian chapel from before 680. From 1356 the German kings were elected here, and from 1562 the emperors were crowned here too. In Advent it stands at the edge of the market, open daily from 9:00 to 20:00.
