Bergparade im Fackelschein50°55′ N 13°21′ EProcessionDec 5, 2026Seasonal
Freiberg's torchlight parade suits anyone who wants to see the Erzgebirge's mining custom in the dark, in the old silver town it comes from, and the city calls it the high point of its Christmarkt. It starts at 17:00 on Saturday 5 December 2026.
Freiberg's historic guild of miners and smelters, the Historische Freiberger Berg- und Hüttenknappschaft, marches through the lit old town by torchlight while the Bergmusikkorps Saxonia plays. The parade ends on the Christmarkt with a Bergpredigt, a sermon for the miners. Freiberg holds it every year on the Saturday before Advent 2, so it falls on the same day as the Dresden Stollenfest.
Freiberg Cathedral performs Bach's Christmas Oratorio the same day, at 16:00 and 19:30, so you can hear one performance and still see the parade.
Worth knowing
