The Frankfurter Stadtgeläut rings the bells of ten city-centre churches together on Saturday 28 November 2026 from 16:30 to 17:00 and on Christmas Eve from 17:00 to 17:30. Stand on the Römerberg near the cathedral to hear it best, and come on the 24th if you want the one Christmas Eve moment Frankfurt's old town still offers after the market has gone.
Fifty bells ring at once from the cathedral and nine other churches. The cathedral alone has nine, and the Paulskirche and St Leonhard six each, with the rest spread across the Katharinenkirche, Peterskirche, Dreikönigskirche, Liebfrauenkirche, Alte Nikolaikirche and the Dominican and Carmelite monasteries. The sound carries across the old town and the Main for half an hour.
Worth knowing
- On 24 December the market has already closed, so dress for standing still in the cold.
- In 2025 the Christmas Eve Mass in Frankfurt Cathedral followed the bells at 18:00.
