The City Park Ice Rink (Városligeti Műjégpálya) is Budapest's largest outdoor rink, laid on the lake in Városliget each winter from late November to about the end of February, and it suits families who want an hour of skating between markets. The 2026/27 opening date is not out yet, and the rink closes for a few hours in the middle of each weekday.
The rink sits in City Park, a few minutes from the city centre, and in summer the same water serves as a boating lake. On weekdays in the 2025/26 season it opened from 09:00 to 13:00 and again from 17:00 to 21:00, with longer sessions at weekends and over the holidays. Children under 6 skate free, and under-12s need an adult with them who also buys a ticket. Skates, helmets and seal-shaped skating aids for small children are for hire at the rink.
Worth knowing
- Ticket prices go up on Friday afternoons, weekends, public holidays and the school winter break, which the rink counts as its peak period.
- The ticket desk closes 60 minutes before the rink does.
- In rain or snow the rink usually opens, but the weather can change the hours, so check the rink's site or Facebook page on the day.
