Young Augsburg women chosen for their poise and musicality play the 23 angels, who appear in the windows and on the balcony of the town hall and turn the facade into a living Advent calendar. A former tourism director, Fritz Kleiber, devised the play in 1977 after a painting by Hans Holbein, and the Stadtsparkasse Augsburg funds it. On 23 December the angels come down the stairs to the portal.
